Mental Illness affects 1 in 5 youth

A mental illness is a condition that affects a person's thinking, feeling, or mood. Mental illness causes disruptions in a person's mental state and can affect someone's ability to carry out daily tasks, their behavior, and their ability to communicate. Each person will have different experiences, even with the same diagnosis.

A single event does not cause mental illness, instead there are multiple factors or causes that lead to mental illness. Research has linked genetics, environment, and lifestyle influence as factors for mental illness. Stress in one's life leads to an increased risk of developing a mental health condition.

There is HOPE! Recovery for mental illness is possible, especially when recovery starts early and is continuous. For more information please check out Nami.org.
